[SASL e-list] SASL Over-48 League Starting In The Fall. Date: Sat, 13 Jun 2009 21:30:04 -0400 From: Garry Archer <> To: (SASL) Hello All, It's not 100% guaranteed just yet, but the SASL is pretty darn close to starting an Over-48 League this coming Fall when the SASL's new 2009-2010 "fiscal" season kicks off. We need MINIMALLY SIX TEAMS to start it off. We currently have the commitment of FIVE. Just ONE more will make it official. I don't want to mention too many team names publicly just yet, but basically the five, first of all, includes Vasco da Gama CC Over-48s who applied to join the Over-48 league back at the last SASL Annual General Meeting. When we didn't have enough teams then, they agreed to play in the Masters League Third Division until we could get the Over-48 league going. Of the other four, a non-SASL team has applied and three SASL Masters League teams have either agreed to move up to the Over-48s or create new Over-48 teams. We need one more, at least one more, and we are finally a go on this project, which seems to have taken many years to lead the old horses to water and make them drink it! If your team wants to make the switch to the new SASL Over-48 League, please contact SASL President Ken Brown (email or telephone 860-667-3359) as soon as possible. Please, at your earliest convenience because scheduling SASL games for the Fall is already under way and we need to know now in order to pass on scheduling information to the Referees Association. Players must be Over-48, goalkeepers can be 45. If you need a few more players to complete your rosters, let me know and I will advertise for you here on the SASL email list and also on the SASL Website. If your team is interested in joining the SASL Over-48 League and you want to know who the other five teams are, please ask Ken Brown or myself. Once we have the minimum of six teams and they are fully confirmed and committed, I will announce who all the teams are then. The SASL Over-48 League will be scheduled for the same time period as all other SASL Over-30s and Masters League games. All regularly scheduled games will be on Sunday mornings. Kick-offs will principally be 10:00 AM, but there could be 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM games too. The SASL 2009-2010 season will start this fall (probably the weekend after Labour Day), take a winter break (probably up to Thanksgiving), restart in the spring (probably mid April) and finish in early summer (probably end of June). Note all those "probably"s are my reasonable guesses, they are not official. If the SASL Over-48 League starts with only six teams (I'm still hopeful it may be a couple more), the SASL Scheduling Secretary will most likely schedule you as close to as 18 games as possible (so you might play each other team at least three times). I am extremely confident that once the SASL Over-48 League starts it will grow fast in the next few years (just like the Over-30s and Over-40s did), owing to the demographics of adult soccer players in Connecticut -- we're all growing old together and we all want to keep playing league games for as long as we possibly can! I am really looking forward to the SASL Over-48 League starting! Come on, help us to get this much-needed league going! Cheers, - Garry Archer (SASL Executive Board) _______________________________________________ saslsoccer e-mail list List information and how to unsubscribe at: http://pushkin.derby.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/saslsoccer |
